I was born and raised in Darke County, even though I no longer live there. I do return to visit family and friends when possible. This site is my way of staying in touch with my Darke County roots. My families have ties to Annie Oakley and many of the earliest settlers of Darke County. I am saddened by the fact that the cemeteries of these early pioneers are slowly disappearing, forgotten as they sink into the ground. These are people who fought for our nation's independence and carved out a new life for us on the frontier of Ohio. While strip malls, trophy homes, and cell towers cover the rich soil of Darke County, the graves of our ancestors are disappearing from neglect. These are people with hundreds of descendants in Darke County and the world. They deserve a little respect and gratitude. Please let your township trustees and other local officials know how you feel about the destruction of our old cemeteries.
